Your Restoration Project

It is here that you can post questions you might have about your restoration or about mine.

January 5, 2010:
A few days ago, Kevin had a few questions about his oil lines on his 270.  For him there was an additional oil line coming out of the left side of the block.  Neither he nor I could figure this out.  So with a few exchanged emails, I decided to add to the site a page that would help others out with the direction and of each of the three lines that come out of the junction block on the front of the engine.

If you have any idea why an oil line would be coming out from the left side of the engine, below the manifolds, please let us know.

As for work on the truck, still finishing up loose ends, but did manage to get the glass installed in the passenger side door last night.

  1. Hey Joey

The oil line in question, is it the oil pressure line that goes through the fire wall to the back side of the oil pressure gage in intersment cluster?? On my 228 1948 GMC engine the oil pressure gage line comes from that area, and the size of the oil pressure line starts off large then reduces down to about an 1/8 line that ends up connecting to the oil pressure gage.

I not only mis-spelled gauge a few times, in my first comments, but after looking closely to my 228 engine on the driver side toward the rear of the engine the oil pressure gauge is feed from the front three way connecter as well. Kevin’s 270 engine which on the driver side of the engine has an oil line location sticking out towards the rear, which maybe a 270 option for the oil pressure gauge or was a mechanic’s custom relocation of the oil line pressure gauge?? Sorry, for the mis info – Jack

  3. Hey Jack,

Like your 228, this 270 block also has the three-way oil line terminal up front. Can’t for the life of me figure out the purpose of the flexible oil line hanging out on the left rear port, so I’m gonna plug it off for now. It may have been an under dash pressure gauge added by a previous owner.
